YouTube Demonetises James Charles’ Channel
James Charles has had his YouTube channel demonetised following the emergence of disturbing sexual abuse allegations.
Speaking to a British media outlet on Monday, 19 April, a spokesperson for YouTube confirmed that the company has temporarily removed the 21-year-old beauty influencer from their partnership programme, which allows YouTubers to earn money for their uploaded content.
This comes nearly four weeks after Charles admitted to – and subsequently apologised to – his 25.5 million subscribers for sending sexually explicit messages to two underage fans.
One of these messaging incidents occurred last year, while the other occurred recently.
He said: “As an adult, it is my job and my responsibility to verify who I’m talking to, and therefore there is no one to blame for this other than myself.”
In addition to the demonetisation, Morphe – an American cosmetics company with whom Charles has collaborated since 2018 – announced the end of their partnership last Friday, 16 April.
It is unclear at this time how long Charles’ channel will remain demonetised.
